So? $60 an hour is still too cheap.

So being a bottom feeder, hobby, ma pa, garage, machine shop. My base rate quotes are $60/Hr. My customers get a fair competitive piece price rate, and I get fair wage. But there is room for improvement. Each job, if tooled correctly, programmed efficiently, placed into a faster machine, has the potential to produce $120-$180/Hr. Which is were the other other shops are bidding and pushing. To cover overhead costs and expenses they have to. It's my hobby. I get to play with my equipment for enjoyment, without the pressure's of a Supervisor, Boss, or any other schmuck trying to make a name for himself. I work a full time gig in a role different from machining. For me equipment didn't upgrade fast enough. I've always gravitated to work with small companies. Under 20 employees. Less drama in most cases. And my personal needs are multi faceted. Being a tool n die maker almost covered it. Lots of different equipment. Up to a point. So bla bla bla. Make your own call. Is $60/Hr good enough for you? There is loads of advice in group. All of it great. End call is you.

Then again I hear that the reason they never take the "CNC machinist wanted" signs from Fox Shocks locally is they pay barely over minimum wage and turnover is very high as you can't rent a closet for that much money. Interesting.[/QUOTE]
