    The OP worm is a regular single enveloping worm . Not a worm gear. The gear would be the bronze wheel. This is extremely similar to an acme thread. Check the pressure angle , if it’s 14.5 degrees that’s the same as an acme 29 degree included. We have cut them with the next size thinner acme thread insert and just shifted the tool in z after getting to the root diameter to widen the thread to size.

    Also cone drive gears are widely used by G&L for the column drives in their floor type boring mills. Shaft and gear must be replaced as a set, and ran 14k about 10 years ago
