Hi All,

Has anyone shipped a Deckel mill from Germany, and
if so, how much did it cost, and what all was involved?

What would be the best way to do it? Suggestions on
shippers?

Thanks for any help,

Paul Hoffman

[you posted twice, so I'm answering twice ;) ]
I have shipped lots of stuff from Europe. For the FPS 300 M (Deckel FP 1 clone) I purchased, FPS charged me roughly 2400 Euro plus additional for packaging....this had FPS doing ALL the logistics for me in Europe, I took over when the container arrived in USA arranging for USA customs agent and paying USA duties. I recommend you get your seller to handle the logistics on their end, there are lots of logistics companies in Europe that can handle this.

You don't say what kind of Deckel mill, but I expect drcoelho's figure of 2400 Eur to be about what you should expect for west coast USA. I recently shipped a 1200kg machine from Switzerland to East coast USA for about $1100 USD door-to-door. I used the family-owned company Lamprecht which provided the best service I've ever experienced. Get quotes from your local offices of Kuhne+Nagel, DB Schenker, DHL sea, DSV, and Panalpina. Seaworthy IPPC legal packing will be required (which means probably no homemade crates)...there are plenty of specialist companies who can handle this, but it helps to have a cooperative party on the German end. Fortunately logistics is something at which the Germans excel. When you compare quotes be sure you're looking at total or (door-to-door) prices. I'd recommend asking for complete services including brokerage services, customs clearance and single entry bond. Some companies will nickel and dime you to death. It's really not that difficult or complicated but it's nice to work with a trusted logistics vendor.

I've used Kuhne+Nagel for international transport once (1800kg grinder from Switzerland to northern Germany). They were outstanding, from pickup, through customs clearance, to final delivery with a truck unlike any I have seen before. The truck "kneeled down" in back and the driver drove out a fork lift with the grinder already strapped to it! Hi All,

I didn't intend to post twice. I noted that I had miss-spelled Germany,
and I tried to correct it but PM does not allow you to change the subject
line without making it a second post.

If you try to import a kaput Deckel, it looks like it will cost as much
or more, to ship from Europe, than the purchase price. For that price I can
buy a much newer machine, that works, and most likely a better value for
the money.

You know what they say, "The best plans of mice an men......"

Thanks for all of your inputs.

Paul
