I believe volvo 140140 is talking about putting the horizontal spindle back together.

    Ops...totally missed that.
Spindle "Quill" (the outside portion that can be moved and that fits into the machine casting) needs to fit the housing closely......
Any differential heating such as holding it in your hands while the machine is in a cold shop can cause installation issues.
Early FP2's have issues with the locking rings on the horizontal quills. Dirt and old coolant and accumulate around and behind the ring making it tight and unable to unclamp
    correctly.
Removal and cleaning of the ring and cavity it lives in seem to be the remedy
    Have a look here:
Removing an FP2's Sticky Horizontal Quill

    Everything must be clean,
    Cheers Ross

Hi thanks. I removed the lock it is little differently than the one in that thread. Maybe they changed it to the newer models

Hi. I've started assembling my horizontal spindle now, There are two lock rings what i'm thinking about is which one to use to put the axial play. suppose you do it on the inner locking ring? On the outside, you just tighten the trust bearings. Is this right ? How much to tighten the outer ring that is to hold the trust bearings in place ? Thanks best regards volvo 140140

    Hey,

the spare parts manual I posted a Dropbox link to, is actually for your vintage of FP2.

Unfortunately no drawing of the horizontal spindle, but the heads are there.

    Cheers (hej då)
