Picked up this cool bandsaw yesterday. I’ve never seen one like it. Cute little guy.

Is that an anchor in their logo? Pretty cool. Date on the tag says 1951. Every part even the covers are an iron casting. Amazingly heavy trunion tilts both side to side and front to back. Wheel covers hinge in the right instead of the left? Rather than a blade welder it has a blade brazer with instructions. So far really liking it. Should do a good job keeping the Deckels company.

So this was sold new in the US I presume, being inch and 60Hertz, but it does have the very very old german electrical socket on the top.
I can't think of how this came about.
Also Nassovia AND Thiel?
Nassovia I only know from EDM.
And then it was Schiess-Nassovia IIRC.
I wish machine tool history was better documented.
Cool machine.

So i can't tell from the photos, but i find the table layout very strange...That not being rectangular.
Then there are the grooves in the table top itself, cut in at angle to where the operator stands....
Think one would have difficulty sawing material straight where the angled lines would tend to confuse your eye.....Not sure what the purpose of such an arrangement would be.
Further the width of the grooves would make cutting small parts difficult.......
Nice looking machine otherwise...

Getting back to the bandsaw for a moment. You guys come up with some wild statements. How is the table not a rectangle? It’s 20” x 20”, square. A square is a rectangle with all sides equal so it qualifies. The angled slots are sort of cool/distracting. To carry chips off to the side.

Today’s question is what about guides? I need two for each blade size. I have a total of one guide. Here’s a pic:

Two rectangular blocks riveted together with a spacer between. Simple enough. My question is what material? I would have thought stellite but as far as I know stellite is non magnetic and this stuff is highly magnetic. Carbide might be nice but that would crack during riveting I would think. So what’s recommended here? Tool steel? And how do I cut it into blocks and drill holes in it?

Doall (prety much the standard for band saws) used hardened steel on their solid friction blade guides....
The Grob at work had aluminum bronze guides before we changed it over ...
And that is the way i would go...convert to anti friction (ball bearing) guides.
There are some sources for redi made conversions, but rolling your own is not all that difficult

Or you could go with this....
