Did anyone bid on/win the immaculate looking green FP2 with DRO on ebay that just ended? It sold for $5755. It looks like it had never been used.

The seller only provided somewhat blurry pictures of the machine, no other info (other than the defaults ebay will auto fill). I asked him questions via ebay but he never answered, so that heavily discounted my top bid .

ebay info said it was 380V, so that probably means it had metric dials, right?

I asked him if I could come pick it up myself and where it was exactly, because I'm in driving distance of Phila. Didn't get a response either. The seller's account's last activity before this auction was in 2005 which makes me think it's a fraudulent listing on a spoofed account.

I was the high bidder.I messaged the crap out of the seller and never got a reply. The deal does seam a little shady! but what the heck behind curtain # 1 could be the full array of accesories they were just about to photo before the camera battery died. For that matter it seems their laptop battery died as well. If the seller comes out of recluse I'm certainly going COD on this one.My rational is if there is a photo of a deckel there more than likely is a deckel, now rather it's in Philli or the Philipinnes is another matter. I hope the deal is good to go.

Well, please let us know what happens!! The photos make it look either brand new or freshly rebuilt. Awesome deal if real.

Does anyone here recognize the photos perhaps?

An obvious repaint, so what it "looks like" from a condition standpoint is probably an illusion. After all, if it was cared for and had very low hours, why would it have needed repainting ? With zero info on condition, no recent sales history, no responses to emails....most likely a scam.

I also sent off an email with some basic questions and never received an answer.
I wanted a phone # at least.Good luck.yzfr1pwr

I was interested in the mill also. One of the few that I have seen that was in my preferred one day pick up distances. I asked a lot of questions and did get an email back but all of my important questions weren't answered. Here's the email:

"Hi,
As you can see, the machine is in a perfect shape, has no damage, this is a really valuable item.
It has been repainted.

This machine has been bought by me 4 years ago and was used accurately. That there was before I do not know unfortunately.

I will deliver by a reliable company. The delivery cost to you witha all-risk insurance included will be approx. $250

Thank you,"

I hope it works out well for you yzfr1pwr

I suspected that it may be a repaint due to some of the screws being green. However even with the compromised photos if it is a repaint they did a darn good job. There are no visible runs ,glossy, seems they either removed everything or taped it off precisely because I can't see paint anywhere it's not suposed to be except maybe some of the fasteners and that fitting in the center of the vertical quill housing. So since when do autobody guys doll up deckels?I haven't nor do I own a deckel,so I don't know what their painting practices were.So feed back from those in the know would be much apreciated. Did deckel paint the word deckel in the base black at any time and what about the bolts? I figured I'd shoot first on this one and ask questions later,(or at least get answers to them later) after all no currency has left my hands yet and will not untill I inspect this mill in person.

Well, this is going to be interesting. A quick image search didn't bring up any matching pictures, but that doesn't mean much.

Paint job aside, it does look nice, the x axis bellows are there and someone cared enough about it to replace the z axis bellows with the newer style one.
DRO looks to be an older Acu-rite or Anilam, so the display unit can be upgraded easily.
Paint job was done with care by the looks of things. Since its on blocks maybe he repainted it just before the auction?

Hopefully it turns out to be for real. Not a bad deal if it is as good as it looks.

The only thing that looks suspicious to me is that the only piece of tooling he shows is a bloody Clarkson type chuck for threaded end mills. Anyone outside of England still use those things?

Good luck and keep us informed.

Ain't no "suspect" to it...absolutely recent paint and completely obvious to the trained eye. For one thing, far as I know there are no Factory green second gen Deckels...but more importantly, the cover in the base over the coolant tank is green....these were always dark gray whether the machine was gray or green. Also all typical chip collecting wear areas appear perfect...impossible except on recent repaint.

Yes, did a good job...at least best we can tell from cell phone quality photos. Which is another curiosity..lighting and camera angles are excellent....so what a moron to get that right but then take pix with abysmal quality camera....or maybe not a moron, but sneaky.. to hide imperfections ?

Don,
you write as far as you know there are no second generation FP2's in factory green.

My late first generation (1966) FP2 certainly looks like it was born green.

All parts has the right color etc.

I know it's off this topic, but I would like to ask Arno about that.

Strange - on the ebay FP2 there aren't any covered coolant holes in the base!

Cheers
Erik

Strange - on the ebay FP2 there aren't any covered coolant holes in the base!

That is because on the later models they did not have the coolant holes. The entire front section of the base is covered by a flat panel that can be removed to access the coolant sump. This is particularly difficult to see in the images in the auction.

At least I'm not the only one not to get a response.

I live about 15 miles outside Philly, so I could have gone to look at it at lunch.

sneebot,
You are absolutely correct about the base plate. As a note, however, that is a piece of plated sheet metal. It should be black in color. There are several other give-aways to the machine being a repaint. One of these is the black high-lighting of the letters on the front. Unless I am really mixed up, I don't think Deckel ever painted these separately (i.e. black).

yzf..... what's the latest...is the seller reponding ? :toetap:

And to whoever asked if it could be a Singer rebuild pix...nah, it looks good but not that good...not even close. For one thing, if Singer, the table would look like it did originally when new, but on this one the table appears to have been sanded with a belt sander...the planer marks seem less visible than they should.

Hi, we tried bidding on it also !!
Gorgeous machine !
We use bidnapper and we topped out at 4250.00 US
knowing full well it would go higher.
Being in Montreal + exchange we would of come in
around 8000.00 Can at least from high bid.
And we got back the exact same reply as poster above, I shot an email back
asking if they were sure it was an FP-2 and not a GK-21 ?
Also I got the impression we were dealing with a woman, maybe an estate sale or something of the like?
Hope it works out for you YZF, good thing you are paying COD and not
sight unseen like most of us would of.

Ok, so on Sun. after numerus Msgs.on ebay to the seller with no reply I'm checking my regular email and in the spam filter I find this :

Hi Michael,

I am pleased that you've become a winner of my item: Deckel FP2 universal tool milling & boring machine! The machine is in a perfect technical condition, the service maintenance was held always in time. A qualified specialist operated it, and there were no faults or breakdowns. The machine is supplied fully equipped together with all original documents and etc.

In April I've contacted with W & B Precision Machinery store and have put up this item for sale. It is the reliable store, I've already had a positive experience of selling some machinery with them. But possibly because of the financial crisis I have already been waiting for more than month and a half and there is no result. They didn't want to reduce the price, so the item has not been sold. Now I can't wait any more and a week ago I've inquired to stop the advertising campaign and sold this item to you. To say the truth I've expected the price to be higher, but I can't spend money for advertising anymore, because I've already paid for the shipping, package, insurance there are no good reasons to back the item.

Today I've contacted with the Head of Sales Department. He said me the following: as far as the contract has been concluded with me and I bore some expenses, so W & B Precision Machinery is obliged to complete this bargain directly with you. They will deliver the machine to your location by the special price with a discount.
I have provided them with a copy of the Ebay notification where the price and your delivery address are specified.

Please contact with me and I will send you all the details of the store.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Donna

Seems akin to the sort of spam one gets along the lines of receiving X amount of dollars from the kings court of Nigeria etc.etc. etc. So I call ebay to request they investigate the matter and am told they will watch the seller and that I should continue to attempt to contact the seller. After receiving an email address that matches the yahoo msg. and a phn.#I proceed to call the # throughout the day.To no surprise it is of course perpetually busy.Sent an Email,no reply. So my conclusion is the seller is one of three things oblivious, severely mentally challenged, or a run of the mill net scammer with a rather strange taste in scam props.

Wow...that is a strange one. 99.5 percent scam though. I wonder if that Maho 600P that was in Richmond, VA a few months ago was a scam... that one not as definite but highly suspect.

Many years ago (2001 or so) I had a lead on *two* Schaublin 150 lathes supposedly in Iowa or somewhere equally strange. After many emails back and forth they sounded more and more suspect and finally got some pix and traced the pix to another 150 for sale in Europe... so that was a scam also. Gotta be careful with this stuff.
