I recently bought a 1990 Mikron WF3SA from a college in the UK
He obviously did not know what he had
Documentation says its 1990 and it came from a Unilever research lab
Mikron is famous for its big travel on the Y-axe
This one has X and Y travel of 500mm on both
And it has hydraulic clamping
I gave it some new bellows and fixed the Z handwheel that was broken
Such a nice machine

Hi Peter
What is your impression of the Mikron compared to a similar size Deckel or Maho or Hermle?
Quality, rigidity, power, reliability, noise, user friendliness, etc

It is great to see the photos, thanks for posting.

I've always understood that Mikron mills were absolutely top notch, an equal or better than Deckel. The problem is their rarity, finding accessories spares etc. This one looks awesome. If it was close and I had the cash and needed a mill I'd probably still go for a Deckel for those reasons.

The Mikron handles very smooth Overall quality is very high
And I like the long reach of the Y -stroke But I prefere the quill handle of a Deckel
The lube system on the Z spindle I like too
Then this machine has a dovetail guide on the Z -axe and someone pointed out to me that with the same wear the table hangs more as with a block guide

I can do a trade in for your FP2 No problem :D

Peter

Can't see a horizontal quill, so I'll pass...:D

Jokes apart, thanks for showing and for the info regarding their dovetailed ways in comparison to the Deckel box ways. I think, though, that if one had the money and if the machine is in the condition is seems to be, it must be an amazing machine. Can't beat the '1990' tag, decades younger than the machines many of us here have...

Thanos
