Hi,

Yesterday I took a look at a Deckel G1L pantograph and as it was in real great condition I just took it home :D

It showed that the machine was used in Munich at a BMW plant and found very little use. Because of that it got sold to one of the workers, where it collected dust for about eight years, now he wanted to get rid of it.

The paint is in very good condition, as well as the ways, which look as they have moved no more than a few times. On the end of the ways and on many other parts there was still the brown preservation wax and nothing was dinged up or hacked with a channellock..

An thats what i got:

Looks nice next to the Deckel G2NC:

And thats what came with the machine:

- Manual and part list
- Machine card
- Deckel engraving cutters with the conical shank (and the collet adapter for conical shanks)
- Patternholder
- Clamps
- Some tools

Also there are three boxes of letters in different styles and spare belts:

I love those machine cards that list all of the machines key specifications:

Only thing thats missing are collets with a straight bore, and Mr. Singer takes a fortune those, so I will make those by myself.

And what will it be used, as I allready have a cnc milling machine? It will be used for my personal enjoyment. And maybe make a fortune engraving signs for friends ;)
But I also want to use its wide range of reducing which ranges from 1:1 down to 1:50 to machine very small parts for model engineering.

Wonder if this was one of the last such machines made/bought - as in by the time it was ordered it was already obsolete, which is why it was never really busy.

Stefan, that's a a beautiful find, congratulations! I'd enjoy seeing some photos when you make the collets. Do you use C45 and then harden and temper it? Cheers, Bruce

Stefan
Very Nice looking Maschine, also enjoy seeing your neat and clean workshop.
I'm not familiar with the G2--where do those fit in the Deckel Geschickte and model line up?
Cheers

I think thats correct, and I am not to mad about this ;)

I made "emergency collets" out of etg100 steel, just turned, drilled and bored in one setup, slit on the milling machine, then parted off.

On the left theres the original collet for the Deckel cutters with conical shank and then my shopmade collets ranging from 3mm to 6mm.

Its the heavy version of the early G1 and was introduced somewhere around 1920, mine is build 1927 - I removed the pantograph, put a sk40 highspeed head from a Fp2 on it and did a full Cnc retrofit with glas scales on it. Now its a Frankendeckel, and its a bit very homeshopish so will get burned for it ;)

Still gathering accessories for the machine:

Got another two boxes of letters:

They seem not to be Deckel, but fit the Rails of the mastertable - seems like 32mm height of the masters is kinda standard.

Meanwile I also got two of the original Deckel collets (4 and 6mm) for a reasonable price :)

Still looking for the small swiveling rotary table and the drum engraving attachement...but both get pretty pricey, especialy the rotary table.

Stefan

Useless? I engraved a new sign for the doorbell of my girlfriend :D

Ok, agreed, its like having a shaper (or three ;) ) in the shop...

It doesn't copy Z, right? So you can only use it for 2.5-D copying/scaling.

Right, only the bigger GK and KF machines can do real 3d work, but both take up enormous space in the shop.

Still gathering more accessories :D

Got a spare spindle (almost new, taper runs dead on), three collets (4, 6, 8mm) and a few other bits for for a very good price - way less than Singer charges for one G1L collet.

And another one:

(Ok, its not Deckel but made by Sempuco)

Also looks like I got a deal on the small swiveling rotary table made by Deckel for the engraving machines..

Stefan

The engraver doesnt just sit in the corner and act as a decoration, it also gets used, like that graduation:

kugeldreh_61.jpg

Height of the numbers is 2mm, with of the engraved lines is 0,15mm.

Machining sloped surfaces with a 2d Pantograph? Sure!

pro_abzeilen_2.jpg

Yes, every stinkin cnc can do that faster :)

Its also a bit limited as it works only with straight profiles, but who knows, maybe it comes in handy one day.

Stefan

ER11 replacement spindle for the G1L, just a prototype, nothing ground, just a few pieces casehardened.

I will do a short run of five, where the housing will be hardened and ground :)

Hi Stefan.
I have just bought a G1 and it only came with a 6mm collet, do you still offer these ER collet ones or is it long gone?
