Hi Guys,

I am looking at a FP3NC mill that uses pull studs, can
you use a pull stud on a NMTB40 tool holder, that will work?

Can you buy pull studs that are for that, or can I make
my own that will work.

Is there room in the FP3nc spindle for the 3/4" extension on
the NMTB40 tool holder?

Paul

NMTB 40 tool holders have a straight section on the holder at the small end.
This extension sits where the pull stud would be as mounted to a CAT40 or BT40 tool holder....

It is possible to machine the extension portion to emulate the installed pull stud. I have done this on several tools.
Portion of the extension gets sort of thin where it is grooved for the gripper fingers. I installed threaded studs with Locktite
to strengthen this area on my converted tools.....Just to be sure....

Also need to be aware of the total length of the holder (gauge length) as the end of the pull stud or the extension on your NMTB holder is how the tool is
ejected from the machine.....the tool gripper when released bumps the end of the holder knocking it free from the spindle taper....
Too short and the tool will be difficult to eject. Too long and ti won't pull up tight....
Suggest you purchase at least one real CAT or BT holder and a real pull stud so you will have a model of what is required.

Generally finding good used holders on auction for CAT holders is easier and cheaper than finding NMTB stuff.....
