Hello All,

As of today there are 15 US,and 1 Canadian Deckel with LCD screens. They are on a wide variety of Dialog controls and one on a Contour 3.

If any one has an old dead CRT laying around I would be happy to get the frame, from it from you,I will pay the shipping for the frame.

If you receive an LCD from me you can remove the old tube and circuit board and just return the frame complete. This will cut shipping cost.
There are only 4 screws to remove the tube and 4 nuts to remove old circuit board.

As you can see the new LCD bolts in exactly where the old CRT was. There are no modifications necessary.

You have to remove a Rubber gasket that is directly in front of the old CRT to allow the LCD to be close to the glass of the operators console.

The replacement of your CRT should only take 30 minutes.Comes with complete instructions and a expaination of the on screen display (OSD)
There is a total of 6 phillips screws and 2 nuts.
The new LCD is plug and play.

You will notice in the one picture that now their is a small circuit board on the outside of the frame work where the old phenolic material covered the old board.

This board (pic 87) ON SCREEN DISPLAY (OSD)is where all the screen adjustments will take place,brightness,contrast,saturation,tint,sharpness,H-position,V-position, and backlight.

Depending on your lighting conditions in your shop you will only need to get it set to where it is most comfortable to your eyes one time, set it and forget it.

Once you see this display you will never want to look at another CRT. THis will be a problem if you have more than one machine. :D :D

There is a benzel on the front of the operators console behind this is a piece of tinted plastic if yours is scratched badly or you don't like look at the new LCD threw it, it can be removed by removing the 4 small button head cap screws that hold the benzel on the replace the bezel.

The manufacture says this LCD is good for 25-30,000 hours of use then it may need a new backlight which is a high voltage lamp that can be replaced for around $60.00US.

The price of the LCD is $900.00 US plus shipping and the frame of your old CRT.

The LCD will reduce the heat in the operators console greatly. :D

OK... I have a funny ecological side to me... For all you folks that are going to replace your CRTs, please be aware that you can no longer put these into landfill (think this is federal law now, but certainly true here in California). There is a ton of lead in them and it has been a problem having this leech into the water supply. Many municipalities have free drop-off of CRTs in an effort to avoid illegal dumping.

OK, that is the end of my recycling comments...

Nice clean setup, Don. I suppose the little board takes the composite input and changes it to a raster for the LCD? I like it...

Sheesh DD, all those clear photos of the frame and yet not a single clear photo of what I want to see most....what the actual screen looks like "on".

For starters I presume in real life all the zeros do have black holes and are not all white blobs ??

Here in SC we do not have rural trash pick up sanitation engineers. We do have are recycling places all around the state where you can carry in anything from tires, batteries, crts, oil big appliances and just about anything else at no charge. Since we already pay for this disposal fee in our taxes.
So if when you return your old crt frame work I can despose of the old CRTS.

DD

The picture that does show the display has a lot of glare from the flash of the camera. Since I was so busy getting these to customers I really forgot to take pics of the display. I do not have any LCD'S built as of now I am expecting more early next week. Maybe some of the new LCD owners will post some pics, since some visit this forum.

2 weeks later, no one has stepped up to the plate with a photo !
Those folks are in real commercial working shops. No time to be cruzing the net and answering a board or posting photos...Only us dillitants here with time to reply to this stuff. I will most likely be missing from this board as soon as i get a real job ;)

Cheers Ross

Ross, yeah I know..but it's a plea from DD himself ! These guys should know he'll give 'em a discount if they act right !

Hello All,
Those folks are in real commercial working shops. No time to be cruzing the net and answering a board or posting photos...
The guy who took the pics thought I had more time than he did to post these, but he was kind of enough to send them to me. Thanks Eric. :D
Here is some cheese to go with that whine that I hear coming from the south of me. Only kidding Don. ;) I must have had a brain fart when I was taking pics during the build of the first 10.
The customer who took these photos has 2 FP4A's Contour 3 they originaly only needed one replacement for a bad CRT but after the guys saw the new LCD they did not like to look at the old CRT.They have kept the plastic cover on under the benzel when they took these photos but since have removed it so that they are looking at clear glass and the LCD behind it.As you can see by the photos the screen still shows up quite clear with the plastic installed. Everything on the screen is bigger and spread out further than the CRT was because the LCD has A self centering function built into it.
This customer is a world wide company that extrudes vinyl for windows and doors plus their own line of decking and fence. Everything is done in metric.
I had a customer call this afternoon with his machine down with a bad CRT he has gotten the last LCD I had in stock. More are on the way toward the end of next week hopefully.

Sam, you getting too lazy to type the two letters in front of "ho" or you goin' LA jive talk on us ? ;)

can this be replaced on the Maho, my screen is burned in pretty bad and the orange text against orange background makes me neglect to type the first two letters of many words, Mr. omas.

There is no doubt the monochrome CRT on your Maho can be replaced with monochrome LCD, but it's not so simple as every control manufacture conjured up unique wiring arrangements and frequency outputs to the monitor.

Ironically, monochrome is more difficult to replace than color, as you have to go with industrial grade units that usually don't come with their controller and power supply built in like a typical computer LCD monitor.

First thing you have to do it figure out what wire does what on your current monitor hookup...which wire is horizontal frequency, and which is vertical, and what is the exact frequency of each. I bought a relatively cheap multimeter from Radio Shack that has a frequency function and works well for that, so checking this is not a daunting as it sounds, but it will be a PITA overall to replace your monitor with LCD.
