It does have RS232, but it also came equipped with a Intercim Camate II interface box...some sort of tape reader emulator thing for DNC....so just wondering why they would have needed that box if direct talk to RS232 was possible ?

I believe what you are talking of is a BTR board. BTR(behind the tapereader) some can have 1 meg or more but most common size is 256K.
