about half day at Boeing Auburn

security is tight but not seen are plaques declaring "lethal force authorized"
as are found at Boeing Portland

so I see the Modig 7200 profile mill for the first time

controls, power supplies, drives all stripped

red cap Fanuc's remain

Modig website is very stingy about particulars of any of their machines

and Boeing is keeping all manuals since they are running more Modigs

but the tour de force is two rotary tables each independent and each 10 in
thruholes

the chucks are extrusion formatted and will have to be modified for more conventional
application

so the plan is to convert this machine to plasma cutting tubing up to 10 in diameter

the pattern I hope to explore is micro-cut flexible endoscopic on a macro scale

pics and exposition---

pics4---------------------------

the first pic is of a Mazak tube laser and rotary table--it is in a shop customizing Ducati frames

a review of Mazak tube laser images shows chucks up to maybe 4 inch thru holes

what I have not seen is micro-laser geometric cuts scaled up to macro

pics 2 and 3 show architecture used in flexible endoscopes down to two mm diameter--covered
with flexible bending membrane when in clinical use

now picture same geometric cuts in 6, 8, 10 inch tube ---with the caveat of 1/2 cables running thru bore
placed under variable tension for large kinetic sculptures

but as slow as I work it may be mid century before I can demo;)

and the last pic is machine I bought when new
