    John,

Are you able to send me a copy of the comm program?
I have an HS3100 and have lost our copy.

    Thanks,

    Hi guys,
We have just bought an old HS-3100.
    Having trouble with the comms.
Could anyone send me the pinouts for the machine, and the comms software?
    Thanks in advance.

    Stuart.

I wish PM had a dropbox where certain files could be deposited and then retrieved by those in need.
The Brother comms software is proprietary but not confidential. It could be posted for anyone to use ( specially when you need an HS series wire machine to use it )
Ditto for the pinouts, which kinda-sorta were in the manual supplied with the machine, but a better copy was distributed by the dealer and the installation guys.

PM me with your E-mail and I'lll forward both.

Yes, the connector on the Brother is a 25 pin, BUT!!!
The pinout is non-standard, so you will have to make an adapter.
No biggie, you can either make up the custom end by soldering the wires, OR just use a plane-jane 25-25 cable and hook up an RS232 breakout box and jumper it.
It uses 6 wires, so you can also take a Cat5 cable and make up the connections on both ends in an RJ45-RS232 breakout box.
    The pins are:
    2-3
    3-2
    4-5
    5-4
    6-20
    20-6

In the E-mail I've included the pinout and a short doc, so all you need to do is go down to Cables and Connectors on the Berlin Tpk to get the hardware.
Now that Radio Smack is no longer, they are the only resource left around here for this kind of stuff, and they are great!

Has anyone encountered an error stating "sub memory is out of order" when attempting to send a file from the brother wire EDM via QD-3 port?

PTRP just simply says out of order when I try to use that port instead

    That sucks!

You need to use the PTRP port ( paper tape reader port ) for sending and receiving.
The QD3 port is some automatic programming device, god only knows what that is/was.

The thing is picky about the RS232!!!
First, check that the cable is properly wired and plugged in. The out of order message might be just that ( from memory I might have seen it looooong ago )
Also check your serial port settings.

I am looking for a download of the Brother Comms software,I was told to update the OS of a PC that is connected to a HS-70a and was told after the fact the original disk for the software is MIA. Gone through a few other threads here and found that others have been able to get a copy here. Thanks for any help that anyone can offer.

Thank you Seymour, I will try to get that working. You or anyone else seen a version of the Comms software that looks like this? Hopefully I added the right, if not, it has a full user interface, send, receive, and setup buttons along the top you can mouse click on. The HS-70A is currently hooked up to to be updated via ethernet.

I do have that, but it will not work with theHS-3XXX or HS-5XXX controls.
That one is for the 50A and the 70A ( possibly for other Brother Tapping centers as well )
