Is anyone here familiar with the workings under the tall head cover on a RoboForm 400? I was told lowering the Z doesn't gain me anything, so after I remove the sheet metal cover I may have to remove the servo motor? Is this a somewhat easy one or will I be opening a can of worms doing it without a qualified Charmilles tech involved?

Have you thought of opening up the door jam and not touch the machine, you will have to move it twice through the hole at least once to get it in the other time when it reached it productive end, thats twice you don't have to mess with the machine.

worth a look i think cost wise.

If the z motor is on top it shouldnt be too much work. I've removed z servo off an older Mits edm. I separated it from the ballscrew at the union. 8 bolts total. And 2 wire harness. Be sure to block the head as it will fall...

I've also unbolted the ENTIRE z head assembly from the main casting. 6 large bolts. Then just tram it afterwards with a good square. This reduced the height over 24" for the low door....

I'm sure the Roboform will be similar.

Remove cover and you will just see whays going on
Its very simple
But if you unhook brake make sure head dosnt drop or lower with forklift
