how much are EDM supposed to cost?

I am in Taiwan by the way, just so you know...

I was walking around a used machine tool dealer today. They have all kinds of machines in it, pretty much all butted up against each other. I mean lathes, mills, compressors, presses, etc.

I saw an EDM machine, and asked the price and he told me it was around 50,000 NTD or around 1500 dollars. It's a manual EDM machine.

Is that about right for a used EDM?

I never really did EDM before so I can't say I know much about it as I was primarily looking for Bridgeport type milling machines and lathes.

Manual edm machines are sort of like shapers; useful but not much used in todays shops. Yeah, price sounds like it could be right, depending on brand names.

That sounds like the price for a portable tap buster.

It definitely was not a portable tap burner. It is a full sized EDM machine with a big cabinet thing next to it (which I think is the control box/generator or something).

The dealer said he has another much larger CNC EDM that he said cost 1 million NTD (around 30,000 dollars).

BTW I didn't know what it was at first because it looks like a milling machine with a big open top box over the table.
