Question for Mits owners regarding Manual Z Axis Lock

Hi All,

I own an old Fanuc/Elox WEDM that does not have an Z axis lock. I find it loses wire straightness when I move it to the different heights. I tried adjusting the bearing preload and straightened the slide itself. No luck. Just seems the linear slide is just too short (bearing separation). I used to run a Mits DWC90 that had a Z axis lock. I want to modify my Elox to have something similar. Now to the question. Does anyone know how the lock on the Mits functions? I'm assuming it loads the slide, removing the play. I'm assuming it uses some mechanism to limit the amount of load as to not damage the bearings. I've attached a photo of the Mits lock lever to make clear what I'm talking about. Thank you.
