Sinker EDM bearing races

I only know enough about sinker EDM to know that I don't know much. Google is helpful but there is a limit with no hands on experience.

Anyway, I've heard that graphite electrodes exhibit practically 0 wear when run properly. Would it be possible to take a ground graphite rod and use it to burn a bearing race into something hard?

No particular application, just an idea I can't get any answers on.

If yes, how much undersized should the rod be?

It’s not an ideal situation, but depending on expectations, and the machine you are using, you could do such a thing.

Spark gap depends greatly on the surface area to machine, but as a ballpark, a 50mm diameter going half inch deep would work well from 0.15mm to 0.5mm. For doing a one off in a premachined cavity, it’s not going to matter too much.

A 4th axis or spinning electrode would help greatly as this eliminates the eccentricity or surface finish irregularities of the electrode. An orbiting function would also be a definite must.
