Wire EDM of Metal printed parts from base plate

Can someone advise on the standard procedure for Metal Sintered support structure removal from the base plate with Wire EDM...
Is the interface between the bottom of the support structures and the build plate processed, or is the whole surface area of the build plate processed?

I've done this before, we would edgefind off the base plate, then back up like 1 thou, then just burn thru the printed material without touching the baseplate, then the thou was ground off by hand....worked well.

We do roughly the same as above for most plates, but sometimes we are required to hold a dimension relative to the part itself. In that case we will wire the part to dimension, then go back and remove the support material if it is too much to be ground off.

Thanks for the replies, nice to get some clarification on this.
I have seen the base plates being face milled afterwards, I guess this would be material dependent, e.g. Aly for hand grounding, mill for Stainless?
