Hi Guys,
I am just about done with my 15 HP 40 Amp idler motor converter using this plan.
https://www.practicalmachinist.com/FitchWConverter.pdf
This is the second one I have built but it is much bigger. This one is a bit different as I am looking to run a 50 Amp Lincoln inverter welder so the balance should be more important. I have had some friends measure the 3 phase legs at work and they seem to be all over the place so maybe not…??
The capacitors are on all 3 legs. About an hour's worth of switching them around. I do have 3 volt/amp meters like this that helped.
Panel Meter, 500V & 99.9A AC Red LED | MPJA.COM
Line in (no load)
L1 & L2 = 240VAC
Idler motor is running.
Line out (no load)
T1 & T2 = 240Vac 10.4Amps
T1 & T3 = 240Vac 10.5Amps
T2 & T3 = 250Vac 19.9Amps
Line out (with 1HP band saw running)
T1 & T2 = 239Vac 11.6Amps
T1 & T3 = 236Vac 10.9Amps
T2 & T3 = 244Vac 17.2Amps
Do the voltages look ok?
I am not sure what I should balance the Amps to be?
What size fuses should the motor have on the three lines?
Thanks….Larry
