Lincoln 350MP wire speed issue

I have a couple Lincoln 350's that were given to me with issues. On one, the wire feed motor will only go so fast. At abou 300-350ipm it kinda wigs out and slows down. Upon tear-down and perusing the parts diagram it's pretty evident that the issue probably stems from the tachometer (as they call it) on the motor. The motor itself is just a DC motor, so I >assume< this tach provides feedback to the board to fluctuate voltage as required.

Q- has anyone dismantled one of these and attempted to clean it or troubleshoot it? It appears to be glued on, but would like confirmation before I break it.

Thanks, Cole

Measure the tachometer voltage while the motor is running. I wouldn't expect a tachometer to continue reading higher values as the motor doesn't increase in speed.

The driver circuitry may be suspect, or the motor may lack the oomph to overcome friction. Check the voltage to the motor and make sure it is being driven to the max.
