Normal Laser Gas Consumption

We got our HK 4kW CO2 laser up and running, but we're burning through 40 liters of nitrogen per hour cutting 3/16" Aluminum. This seems high to me, for cutting at 90 IPM. The cut edge is dross free except for sharp corners.

Is this par for the course for CO2 lasers on aluminum or is our use excessive?

What does the manufacturer of your unit say?

Maximum inlet pressure 390 psi and max flow of 40cfm max.

We are already cutting with less gas than their factory conditions and often at better feed rates. But the manufacturer is pretty much useless and has been a nightmare to deal with.

Lasers use a crap ton of gas, guys with the 16 bottle pallet can change them out every 10-12 hrs of cutting. bulk tanks are where its at with liquid nitrogen if you use enough every day.
