Removing parts from Laser nest

Currently, we have several people spending all day removing nested parts, deslagging them and sorting from our laser cutters. Does anyone have a resource for an automating solution that removes/sorts/cleans lasered parts?

Thanks!

Kelly

Waterjet can't touch a laser for speed in thin materials, nor can it come close in consumable cost. Jets are pricy to run.

What kind of laser machine?

As I said, just a suggestion.

If he's looking to automate removal, sorting, and cleaning he better be ready to spend big bucks.

Alternately, use temps for this menial work.

Don't know if this explanation will make sense, but how about cutting one sheet of steel with the shapes a bit oversize, and use that as the base ejector plate, then make up another plate or 3/4" sheet of plywood with spikes placed over where each piece of metal needs to be ejected, and rig up the whole thing like a light duty press. Slide your laser-cut sheet of steel with parts into the "press" and have it push all the parts out into a container below. With a couple of air cylinders, should be as easy as stepping on an air pedal.

While this is a worthy suggestion, even if it works it will only solve one of his three stated problems.

Many times small parts are deliberately left attached to the sheet with a "tag" to prevent them from falling into the table in plasma/laser/waterjet operations. This requires them to be "broken" out of the sheet. Your method may, MAY, only bend the tab.

It's probable too that the parts can be removed from the sheet by hand faster than this arrangement.

This still leaves them needing to be sorted, as evidently they are not all the same part, deslagged and cleaned.

This will be a very hard operation to automate unless very large quantities justify the expenditure, more-so if the nested parts/quantities vary from sheet to sheet.

If the quantities were high enough to justify this I would expect them to be stamping them from coil-stock already, not laser cutting them.

if magnetic and u can fully cut them free, a simple magnetic pick - place robot would do the job of sorting them into types. deslagging if u cant tumble on mass will be a pita! but thats were the water jet idea starts to appeall, its all down to the job and quantities as to the correct answer though.

The op's question was:
1. asked 12 years ago
2. specially asked about removing the nest.

Not a general inquiry for spam.

I wonder if your company's owner understands how badly your simple post
is damaging their reputation ?
