I need to make a tube weldment. Material is tentatively specced as 1" square, .065" wall aluminum tube. My default choice would be 6061, but I could go to a 5000 series if it will make a big difference and is available.
From a welding standpoint, am I going to be better off with MIG or TIG? I know TIG is slower on larger welds, but on something like this where every weld is short, is it going to be slower in practice? The quality should be better.
My welder and I are leaning towards TIG, but I would like another opinion.
