Hey all,

I am leaning towards getting a 1x30" belt sander dedicated to grinding electrodes. I am curious if anyone has any advice as far as the type fo abrasive and grit?

I was thinking about 120grit. Any thoughts on composition of grit? Aluminua? Zirconia? SiC?

Thanks for any info!

I use a 50 grit Alumina Zirconia from Klingspor. They call it a CS411, and will make it in any size belt, PSA disc, or in flap discs for 4 1/2" grinders.

Works great.

If it is dedicated to only tungsten sharpening, you could go a bit finer, but I think 120 is a bit fine for an Alumina belt. They cut very agressively, but leave a fine finish. 80 grit is probably good.

We use this belt/disc sander for everything, and so its a compromise grit, but it still works pretty well for tungstens.
I chuck em in a cordless drill, then line em up parallel to belt direction, and the grind is linear enough for me.
