Water jet etching creates "comet tails" on traverses after a etched character

I created a little test widget to check taper, cut quality, and etching on stock. In this case it's 0.25" 304 Stainless. But the etched numbers all end in a tail that fades out over an half inch or so. In the tool path these are traverses. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Add a dwell at end of each letter? I need to do that when I write my name in the snow after a few beers. G code for me body sometimes not so reliable and I go to longhand, not discrete letters.
Wifey could not do either (she was next to me). So I said "make an angle" and pushed her backwards after she squatted. Snow was only 18" deep. Much younger then.

Since the trail gets smaller its definitely a timing issue on the jet. You will have to figure out if it is in the programming or inside the system sonewhere.
