Hobart Bros. Lathe?

Can anyone tell me where I can find info such
as a manual,how to remove chuck backing plate
where to find parts(wishfull thinking)for a
Hobart Bros.Co. Troy Ohio Ser#L423. I have
done searches but keep comming up with dish
washing machines. I need a new backing plate
(old ones broke) and a chuck (old ones gone).
This is a small lathe(about 8"x18"appx)no
model# found just the ser#. Thanks joatmon

You mean the welding machine guys? Never heard of their lathes...........

Can you post a photo?

Must be something they used their name to label and help it sell.

They're in Troy, Ohio last I heard. I don't have a number on them, I've looked. They also made the food processing stuff you mentioned.

I've got a Hobart air compressor, used a Hobart welder, and have seen Hobart mixers, but have never seen a Hobart lathe.

As far as a chuck backing plate goes it probably screws off. Might be an common size of thread and can be had from a mailorder outfit, if not then blanks can be had and threaded up to fit. Chucks can be had from many sources.

I have the lathe almost apart but am going real slow.I got the broke back plate off
1"X14TPI RH threads,had what I think is a
#1 MT dead center installed. The ways are an
oddity to me-no vee of any kind,just flat.
The oilers are almost even with the casting,
with BB looking ends,you can push them in and oil seeps out. The brass plate with the
Hobart info is braded to the tail peice.

I just bought a Hobart Brothers lathe last night with a serial number just five removed from the above.

Pretty hard to find pictures of this one.
