Kempsmith Dividing Head

Got some Kempsmith literature that states: "For general purpose indexing and with the addition of spiral cutting mechanism, gives a continuous range of leads from less than 1/8" to 100 inches"

They made 3 models of dividing heads.

Hi rhpope,
You are correct in your thinking, but besides cutting helical gears, it is used for differential indexing and cam milling. But you will need the rest of the dividing head attachment which consists of a bracket with the other mateing bevel gear, a swing arm bracket to mount the loose gears on, the 11 change gears to get the desired rotation, and 3 spindles to mount the looses gears on. They look something like this set of mine, made by Vilh Pedersen
