I was offered a Nardini lathe for $1500. I believe the model is a MS-1400 1993. 13.5 actual swing 32-40" centers. Came out of a training center, looks like new. No tooling just a 3 jaw chuck and a manual. Are these a decent lathe? Parts? What say you?

Thanks
Scott

I just got the same lathe about a month ago. I paid $2500. Mine hade the following: steady and follow rest, 8" 3 and 4 jaw chucks, collet closer (handwheel type), collets, taper attachment and probably some other things I am not mentioning. I got a steal IMO. This is one solid machine. Grab that SOB quick. If all is in good working order, you will be making out like a bandit!!!
BTW, If you don't take it....I WILL!!

I forgot to mention. They still sell the same lathe today...Different color but same specs, etc. Base price is around $10,000. Add the tooling and it goes upwards of $15,000. Just something to chew on. I can tell you that if you think too long, it won't be around when you decide it is time to buy;)

This is interesting, I was at an auction today, and a pretty nice one went for $675, sure was tempting to bid on if I didn't have the space and hauling issues right now.

That probably is the same lathe. My friend bought it and he told me he was making a few bucks on the sale. Which I feel is fair

Hi Scott,

Sounds like it, is it this one? (Buckeye Career Center)

I feel totally fine if he wants to resell it, he won it fair and square.

Hey Eric
Yup, That's where it came from.

Hows things in Belmont County? My family is from Beallsville down in Monroe County. As a matter of fact I'm looking at property down that way. We made an offer on a 150 acre farm in Beallsville.

Maybe next time I'm down that way I can look you up. Wife loves the casino in Wheeling

Buy it. I just bought one for twice the money and felt like I did well. Mine is in excellent shape. I feel like it is going to be an excellent machine.

I have used one in the toolroom at the J Deere plant at Torreon in Mexico, good lathe was resurfacing some tractor brake discs and was holding less than 0.6 um on finish with CBN inserts! I would buy one myself but I am not sure if they were / are imported to the UK

Well I got it to the shop. Looks in pretty good shape. It was wired for 440 got to see what will need to be done to change it over to 220. If I can figure out how to post a pic I will

You must have misunderstood I DID buy the lathe for $1500... I posted that it was NOW sitting in my shop.

Scott, if you have trouble posting the pics, send them to me and I'll post them for you. Best quality best size, I'll resize and post if you like. Sounds like you got a real deal.

Scott R has a new baby and is fully entitled to a machine tool gloat

Very nice. Congratulations on the deal are in order. It is also appropriate for me to add that I'm jealous, increasing gloat value :D To add to the pain, I'm also informed it even came with the manual!
Nice shop too, lots of room for the baby to play. The "teething ring" to lower left looks a little large :D

I think on the 1440 lathe you cannot change the voltage as it has a 2 speed motor. If it does not have a 2 speed and is single speed you can change the voltage. Rem sales in ct has parts. There are no new nardini's being exported to the USA as demand was to low. The 1440 is a good lathe.
If you are going to run this off a phase converter you will need one that is much heavier than you may think, 15-20hp min. The WEG motors that Nardini used are very hard starting and need large amounts of current. Good luck with your machine.

Thanks Gary for posting the pics. The chuck in the picture is for my 19" LeBlond

Chipmaster, I believe it does have the 2 speed motor. Thanks for the Heads Up. I'm going down to HGR on Tue and buy a transformer. They have a 15Kw for $99

Scott R,

Hey, great deal there. I'd LOVE to replace my old beater with something like that.

eBay, at least, was good to me last week. I scored a 60 inch, brand new Acu-Rite DRO scale in-the-box for $90 plus shipping. For my dream lathe, whenever she arrives.

Good luck with 'er.
