I was watching the Mad Dad Show last night, and Sr. needed 2ea. .500" long bushings.
All he had was one 1.00"long bushing, and needed Jr. to cut the one they had into two pieces. Well with all the metal fab machines they have, it does not seem that they have one of the most basic metal working machines...a lathe!?!?
I know that the have a mill/drill, benders shears, presses ect.. but no lathe?
I know for a fact that building choppers and such requires a lathe. Axle spacers, transmition spacers, fender spacers ect. all have to be fabricated in a lathe, and they are always a built to suit length. Every bike is different.
Maybe I am jaded, since I have worked with metal machines all my adult life, but how can any one go without even the most basic ones?
My uncle for example is a Doctor by profesion, but a closet woodworker by night. He has every available woodworking tool, and makes quite impressive cabinets, shelves, desks, blah blah blah.
BUT when his tractor or whatever needs a part, he has to turn to me? Again, how can anyone who is mechanicly inclined (and has money!) not have metal working machines?
Oh well, maybe I am just jaded, or weird???
God I love having tools!
Rant over.
Doug.
