Phase Converters

I just purchaced a nice brown & sharpe #2 milling machine and I am considering buying a static phase converter from MSC to get this unit running, I have heard some bad stories about these units and I am looking for feedback , years ago I ran a lathe that had a rather large and costly static converter that worked well but I am a litte skeptical about these small and inexpensive units

John, there is a whole sub-forum here devoted to items such as this, transformers, phase converters, and VFDs. You will probably get more help there.
We've got some people here that are very knowledgeable about this stuff over there. Just click on the lathe at the top of the page and then click on that sub-forum, lots and lots of info there.
