Has anyone had any experience with Pipe Dope as a thread cutting lubricant? I have a "machinist" friend who uses it and he says it is great and leaves a very smooth finish.

Sounds like a pretty expensive lube for threading pipe.

After all Loctite pipe joint compound runs around $6.46 for a 1 pint brush can.

You can buy a whole 5 gallon bucket of Master Chemical Taping fluids and Compounds for $125

2 pints in a quart, 4 quarts in a gallon x 5 would equal $258.40 for a 5 gallon bucket of pipe dope.

Even if you cut it 50 / 50, you still would be paying $125 + the price of oil for doctored up pipe dope.
Not a good thing to do in my opinion...
