50 taper

One of the National Machine Tool Builders series. All are 3.5" taper per foot. Sizes from little to bigger - like gage line dimensions from 1.25 (NMTB 30) to 2.75 (NMTB 50). All held in by draw bar, all driven by face keys in spindle nose. Well covered in Machinery's Handbook
In use between about1927 and 1970

In addition to what John just wrote, you may find later derivatives that use the same taper dimensions but configured for automatic tool changers. The CAT-50 and BT-50 variations are missing the small-end cylinder of the NMTB-50, are used with draw studs rather than a draw bar, and have a circumferential groove on the large end to accommodate tool changer arms.
