I am new to using a lathe, and new to my new Weiss 290F (11" x 29", variable speed to 2000 rpm, 2 HP, 4 Way Tool Post).

I am learning turning 360 brass rod, 7/16" in diameter, and would like to get a smooth surface finish.
My questions: What type of tooling and techniques could anyone suggest?
