Aloris lathe spindle stop - OK?

If it works How I read the description, I made a simple one quickly with all thread.

Found a rubber plug thingy at Home Depot, put washers on each side, and tightened the nuts on the allthread to enlarge the rubber, holding it tightly in the spindle bore.

EDIT: it is a plug for testing or whatnot, has a big wingnut on it.
McMaster-Carr

a couple minutes on the belt sander made a good fit.

I use one of the Aloris stops at work, they do quite nicely in the
machine I run, plus I also use in in the indexer on the mill.
I plan on making a larger size one for the other machines at work.

Was looking for a cheap or DIY spindle stop. The main part would be an expandable mandrel. Found the perfect part at Harbor Freight (SORRY) A tail pipe expander: Search Results For "Tail Pipe Expander"

I bought one from HF for doing the same exact same thing. But it never happen...Yet!

My concern on these is steel on steel.

With my rubber one, the rubber was trimmed to slip fit, the washers support the
rubber on both sides to within 1/8" on the dia. (very little exposed/un-supported rubber) meaning I get good preload, and the device is not spongy
in the long axis by any means.

My concern with steel-on-steel is getting a good grip. The spindle is hardened
for sure, and with winding up and rapid stopping, it taxes the stops grip.
