Anyone have experience with this?
We're working with large amounts of steel that are expensive to replace.
Bushing aren't an option, so we tap directly into our parts.

We're looking into aluminum screws, and replace them every few months.

Is galling an issue and will it affect the threads?
Are we better off using steel screws?

The screws will be torqued and removed ~10 times/day.

Not sure what your actual application is but if I had to torque and remove bolts ten times a day I would use steel. There are a lot of variables here that could stand to be clarified however.

Application is joining two plates of steel 1" & 3/4" thick (without nuts). Function is simply holding the parts in place.
Torque no more than 35 Nm./screw.
The conditions don't involve heavy loads, vibrations, extreme temps, etc.

Steel is most likely your best bet. Otherwise if you can handle a bigger change, look into some sort of quick clamping system like the ones used in fixtures and jigs. Quarter turn fasteners, ball locks, etc. It will cost more up front, but could work out if the same parts are getting reused over and over.

I've had good experience with IMAO out of Japan. There are a few places like FixtureWorks that sells them under their brand.

Then why not nylon screws ?
