i need to manufacture some bolts with a 3/8-20 self tapping thread on the end of it. Does anyone know where i can find the specifications for a 3/8-20 self tapping? I can find 3/8-12, 3/8-16 and 3/8-24 threads, but no 3/8-20.

anyone have any ideas where i can find this info?

thanks.

I don't have an answer to your question, but why can't you use an off the shelf self tapping screw? Why re-invent the wheel, it's just a self tapping screw.

these are for a customer and the thread has to be a 3/8-20 thread and has to be to spec. that i can present to our inspector. i just have not been able to locate any guidelines for that particular thread.

thanks.

I did a quick Google, and I think they only existed, if they ever did, as a special.

Someone's supply has run out, and Someone doesn't want to spend a big chunk of change and dribble them to the customer over a period of years.

I could be wrong.

If anyone has them, or might be willing to make them, try elco.

The will want to know the material thickness, since that affects the flute length, heat-treat, etc.
