I have a tool steel part about 65HRC that my customer is considering having Boronized.
Anyone doing it or having anything done. Or does anyone have a good reliable vendor.
Would it be better to Heat Tread this part before Boronizing or after.
Thanks.

Bump Anyone?

I went in search of "rainbow" TiN ... or whatever it ACTUALLY is.. several months ago.

Google turned-up several firms doing a whole raft of such as "tool and cutter" coatings. Mostly, but not-only. More than one of them with Boron involved.

I didn't save that search, but you should be able to find the service as easily. Cutting tools are a common need, exotic coatings biz.

References, they may themselves be able to furnish.

You may try Tool-Flo in Houston. They do various different coatings on coustomer supplied parts. Another place to try is Body-Kote in the DFW metroplex. I know of a place or two that does "Hard-Kote" which is a boron coating, on oilfield parts. It will change your heat treat because if the heat generated during the hot spray process. And far as I know, it can't be re-heat treated once applied.
