Hi All,

I went and took a look at an old Kitchen and Wade E25 radial arm drill today. I mainly do fabrication, with 50 stainless steel windows prompting a new drill press. Being a bit new to machinery of this sort and size, I am hoping for some advice on:-

What to look for as far as wear and tear is concerned?

What features are important in either a drill press or radial arm drill?

What is a good RPM range?

Any specifics from those who are familiar with this model or similar?

I don't know what else to ask, please sprinkle me with your wisdom!

Cheers
Cody

probably the first is the elevating nut......is it about to fail?..(the arm wont fall, there is a safety backup).........next ,depending on the size of hole you want to drill,is the pillar lock.....small holes OK,but big ones ,the arm will move undr load. Then the head lock.....if the traverse bearings are well worn ,the head wont lock, and will raise up under load....then all the general drill stuff...like is the taper OK.,spindle run true, gears OK,etc.....Ive seen really good drills go for scrap ,so dont pay much.
