I have some parts I've tumbled that are 12l14 and I am having
problems with rust. I finally cleaned them with soapy water and
then immersed them in atf. Is alcohol good for displacing moisture?

I just dump them immediately in a bucket of fresh coolant or run through a parts worsher.

kerosine for compound

We tumble many small steel parts using kerosine for the liquid compound. Its advantages are no rust and it cuts much faster than water based compounds. We reuse it by storing it covered for a while (all the metal and abasive material will settle out). The stones you use in kerosine can not be used for water based compounds, so they will need to be kept seperate and covered. There is a fire danger, so we do this in an out building. The parts can get a dirty apppearance this way, so we change to clean kerosine just before we remove the parts. The speed is so much greater that we use this process on stainless parts that need heavier burr removal or larger edge radii.
