I need to thread some 1 1/2” black pipe. Threads are rough and a few are torn. Weapon of choice is a ridgid 300 also tried ridgid hand threader using the 300 to drive it.
Flooding it with ridgid dark oil
Both sets of dies look good. Tried the adjustable die on a piece of 1 1/4” I have, threads look great. Any ideas is there something better than dark cutting oil.

take multiple passes with the adjustable dies. I have used dawn, oil, simplegreen, cleancut, bandaid, and whatever else was in reach to thread pipe. All work with multiple passes. The weld area tends to grab and start tears if done in single pass.

When we had such problems in the past , we had to learn not to accept imported pipe.

Specified " Wheatland" or " Sawhill" brands and the problem went away.

Amen. My dad recently had this problem where he works. The distributor said the pipe came from Poland. Instead of a nice clean strait seam, it spiraled the whole length of the pipe. He couldn't work with it at all. Sent it back and told them to keep it.
