boring a small .2” hole straight for .5” then tamsition to a 2 degree taper inward, or towards centerline. What issues will I encounter? How would I set the taper? Can I use the tool set the same so no transition line exists? Does boring bar tip need to be exactly on centerline of lathe?
thanks for any tips or help

You don't mention the small diameter of your 2 degree taper. If the tapered portion is very long, it may be better done with a form tool. The tool tip will need to be exactly on center for the taper to match the angle of the compound. Your problems will be those typical of boring small holes, namely deflection, tool sharpness, chip removal, and patience.
