I have an RFQ to reverse engineer a rivet tool. It looks like it has some kind of insert in the business end. The body is 55 HRC on the far end, and it drops to about 40 HRC where the insert is pressed in. The insert itself has a mirror finish on the face and does not want to be scratched with a diamond file. I guess this could be some kind of coating, but that would be a guess. Maybe some kind of tungsten? This tool is probably spinning when it is pressed so I can see why the finish matters, but I am out of my experience zone as to what the insert is. I could make a copy from D2 and polish it, no problem, but I doubt it would get the life that this insert gets. Any help appreciated.
