Hi,

This is my first post, so be kind :) Hopefully this topic is in the right area, please feel free to move if not.

I would like to machine a bush (maybe called a guide?) to allow line boring.
The bush (approx. 27mm OD) is to guide a parallel shank (5/8") hand reamer that will remove material from a pressed in phosphor bronze bush.
The bush will be hand fitted into a steel bore where a bearing will eventually exist.
For context, when assembled with phosphor bronze bush and bearing, the shaft oscillates rather than rotate fully.

Should I make this bush from EN1A steel (plenty spare in the workshop) or source something more suitable such as brass (as it is easy to machine and won't damage the bearing surface) Any other thoughts on material selection?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks

It's onlya reamer shank guide, so if you need it to last 1000's- bronze, 100's brass, ...onesie twosies EN1A & oil.

Just my 2 cents YMMV

Thanks for all the replies guys, really appreciated.
I think that brass sounds like the best option for the volume/frequency I am looking at. However good to know that bronze would be ok (more likely to be found in scrap at work :-))
Cheers, Rich
