I have two lathes a Mori and Wacheon they have dials that are .250/.200 per rev with .025/.020 graduations can some etch the dials to have full .001 graduations or at least .002?

Can it be done? Yes.

Will it be accurate enough? Depends on who sets it up and what your definition of accuracy is.

You don't say how large the dials are. Have you done a calculation Pi*Dia/200 to see how far apart each graduation mark would be? That might be fine or might be unrealistic.

i agreee about the digital caliper/scale . it will be more accurate and easier to use, and you can reset it to zero.

no sense reinventing the wheel .

i'd engrave a couple dials for you on my hrt-210 using cylindrical mapping. $400 each.

I'm thinking, I'm thinking... :D

Why laser???

Digital scale is a better solution.

The answer is you absolutely do rotary laser etching and with sub millimetre lines. We have medical parts engraved on stainless and it's lovely. Digital would still be better though.
