What is the chance of actually finding a reasonably priced tailstock for an early Myford MG12 ( all manual ) these days? I have the opportunity to purchase an MG12 for relatively decent dollars, but the tail is MIA. They may or may not be able to find it. I know they can be found, but frankly they are priced like Unicorn Sperm, ridiculously so in my opinion, and also much more than the possible machine purchase.

Anyone seen a reasonable one?

It would probably still take some finding but ironically you would probably get one for a lot less over here in the UK where they were made ,for some reason they seemed a lot more popular in the US while the Jones and Shipman machines reigned supreme here. There was Myford on Ebay just a few weeks ago that looked like a parts machine ,not sure if that was a 12 or a 9.

Thanks, Sable. Please do not expend effort looking, but if you happen to notice one again please give me a shout. I may just purchase this machine and stick it in the corner in hopes of finding a tail. If I can find one, I am positive that Cash would be able to scrape it to match. :)

Get in touch with these people:

Grinder Specialists Jones & Shipman Myford

They do have some Myford cylindrical grinder spares and they are one of the grinder specialists in UK. There are others, but as Sable says, they mostly have Jones and Shipman machines and spares. Shipping a tailstock would be feasible.

Is it worth buying without the tailstock? It would have to be a very low price (scrap) before I would consider it.

And I am happy to report that I have just spoken with Grampa Unicorn and it's "Mission Accomplished" !!

Looks like I better go retrieve the Myford sooner rather than later...

Thanks boys. A thank you to "Grampa Unicorn" coming soon... :)
