I am a novice machinist and recently purchased a 1965 Clausing 13x36 lathe.
Need help to understand how to change the oil in the apron as I see no drain at all.
I see a drain on the headstock so I can proceed with that one.
Also need a recommendation for oil for headstock and apron.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Drain is on the bottom. Oil recommendations are in the manual. Vintage Machinery has the manual for either this lathe or one very similar to it (slightly different Clausing model) for free.

It is really a Colchester lathe, made in the UK and marketed in the USA under the Clausing name. Colchester is a part of the 600 group, and was one of the largest makers of lathes in the world at one time. If you look it up as a Colchester you will find lots of information about the lathe. Try lathes.co.uk as a starter.

The USA version of the Student/Master is slightly different from the general one......the pulley/.brake/clutch setup has needle roller bearings ,the general model is plain bushes.A definite improvement ,as in lower range gears with the high motor speed ,this gear get very hot on bearing friction, and if rebushed without enough clearance ,can seize with a bang.
