I'm in the position to purchase 2 different Colchester mastiff lathes for $1000 a piece. One appears to have stuffed spindle bearings. But everything else looks ok. And the other has good spindle bearings and is in even better condition. But is missing one of the gear shaft assemblies Beds on both look perfect. No ridges or massive dings. Everything slides smoothly. And they come with Chuck's tooling and steadies.
Electrically ok
These are in Australian dollars. And from 2 different sellers.
Currently I only have a smaller 1m runmaster lathe. And no really use for something quite this size. But I'd enjoy the challenge of getting one good lathe from the 2.
Logistically moving them around is a nightmare. And will probably cost me as much as the lathes themselves.
Is it worth it or am I dreaming.
What's a lathe like this worth in good running condition?
