I’m looking to get a 1” end mill. Techniks 1” uses AP....1003 and Glacern 1” uses AP.....1604 inserts. The Techniks has 3 inserts and the Glacern uses 2. Any preferences on inserts? I think the Techniks with 3 inserts would be more stable but would like to hear from you guys. Thanks in advance.

Depends on what you're going to be doing with the insert. 1604 is a larger and thicker insert with a 1/16 inch corner rad and the 1003 is smaller with 3/64 rads.

A three flute cutter will be more stable and have less harmonics than a 2 flute in heavier roughing but will less durable in this instance because of the overall smaller insert.

If all you're ever going to do is light cuts I would go with more flutes on a smaller insert so you aren't paying for carbide you'll never use.
