Hello,
I borrowed a mag drill for a project and decided that it was a super awesome tool and that I wanted one. I have been working on the design for a DIY mag drill and am considering the motor currently.
Mag drills generally have a slow (~350 rpm) but very high torque motor. From what I have seen, the motors are generally in the 10 amp ballpark. I would like to either find an affordable motor (sub $150) or repurpose a motor from a different device. Here are a couple of ideas that I had:
- spade drill motor
- use a ~10 amp wood router motor combined with a 80:1 gearbox
If anyone has some better/more detailed specs on what I should be looking for in a motor, that would also be appreciated.
Thanks
