Drilled small hole through rod shaft

Hello. I need help please. Having problem drilling 4 mm hole on my lathe through 12.5 mm shaft 170 mm long. Whatever I try hole goes off centre. Have drilled with standard drill bit into both ends. Once I drill through with longer drill it never meets up correctly.

WOW !! That is a 40-1 Diameter to depth hole ,don't think it will happen with a regular drill bit of any kind. That is "gun drilling" territory. What you might try is a bit under 4 mm say 20 mm deep then bore that to 4 mm ,then drill. You will be pulling the bit out MANY times to clear chips. Chip build up loading the flutes will tend to push the bit to the side.

If you need a hole that will pass a certain size gage, your best bet is to drill the hole from one end in oversize stock. Then using the hole as a center, turn the od between centers.
